Overview: Ambien (zolpidem) is a sedative (hypnotic) that can affects chemicals in the brain, which may be unbalanced for people with insomnia. The tablet is used to help you fall asleep when you go to bed. There are different kinds of Ambiens and the doctor will determine which is most suitable for you.

Side effects: Can cause sleepiness or unusual drowsiness, difficulty with breathing, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, fast heartbeat, hallucination, skin rash, face swelling, unusual excitement, nervousness, inability, or wheezing.

Avoid: Ambien can affect your thinking or reactions. The affects of the tablet may be in effect even in the morning. especially if you have taken an extended-release tablet or if you are a female. You mut wake up fully before driving or operating. Dizziness or severe drowsiness may cause severe injuries from falls and accidents. Avoid intake of Ambien during travel. Amnesia is common if you do not get a full 7 to 8 hours of sleep after taking Ambien. Do not take this medicine if you have consumed alcohol during the day or just before bed.
